Tim Merlier wins Stage 3 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia

    06/05/2024

    • Tim Merlier outsprints Jonathan Milan and Biniam Girmay for a Stage 3 win.
    • Tadej Pogačar retains Maglia Rosa after Stage 3.

Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) has won Stage 3 of the 107th Giro d’Italia, the 166km long Novara-Fossano. Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Wanty) finished second and third respectively.

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) retains the Maglia Rosa.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Tim Merlier said:

“This is my hardest victory so far. It was a really hard final. It’s been very difficult to come across to Pogačar and Thomas. I was in a difficult situation in the last hill. But Julian Alaphilippe was there for me. The team helped me tremendously. I was in the sprinters’ breakaway earlier. Luke [Lamperti] was there as well but it wasn’t good for us, so I tried to slow the group down a bit so we could have a bunch sprint finish”.
