It was another breakaway day in Rivoli, with Nico Denz (Bora-hansgrohe) managing to outsprint Toms Skujiņš (Trek-Segafredo) and Sebastian Berwick (Israel-Premier Tech). The latter, interviewed after the finish, admitted to be a long way from winning, being the weaker one in sprinting. “You never know what happens. Steven Bradbury and all that” said Berwick, referring to his compatriot who won the gold medal in short track at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, solely due to his opponents’ continuous falls.

“I didn’t have much in the sprint obviously. 58kg vs 75kg, it’s a bit hard to win but I tried my best out there. It’s a Giro stage and I was in the hunt for the win so you never know what happens. Steven Bradbury and all that.”
