Jonathan Milan wins Stage 4 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia

    07/05/2024

    • Jonathan Milan emerges victorious in late sprint to win Stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia 2024.
    • Tadej Pogačar keeps the Pink Jersey, followed by Geraint Thomas.

Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) has won Stage 4 of the 107th Giro d’Italia, the 190km long Acqui Terme-Andora. Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) finished second and third respectively.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Jonathan Milan said:

“I’m full of emotion again, like one year ago when I took my first Giro d’Italia win because my team has done such an amazing job and my family is here to see me. Our team-mate from the Italian track team Filippo Ganna made it hard for us but the work Simone Consonni did in the last 900 metres leaves me speechless”.

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) retains the Maglia Rosa.

Jonathan Milan takes Stage 4 with sprint in Andora

It was Filippo Ganna who emerged on top after the Capo Mele climb, with a 100-meter gap at the top of the climb.

Fellow Italian Jonathan Milan, however, was ready to battle. With a sprint prepared by Simone Consonni, the Lidl-Trek star attacked and caught Ganna 400 meters from the finish line.

Milan opened up, followed closely by Groves and Bauhaus, and just had enough to reach the finish line in first place, celebrating the anniversary of his win in the 2023 Giro d’Italia with a powerful sprint finish.

The Giro d’Italia resumes tomorrow with Stage 5 from Genova to Lucca.

Pogačar keeps Maglia Rosa, with Geraint Thomas chasing

The rain afforded an entertaining Stage 4, with a nail-biting ending that went to the last inch.

In the Maglia Rosa group, however, not much has changed. Tadej Pogačar is still cruising through in first place of General Classification, with Ineos Grenadier Geraint Thomas behind with a 46” gap.
