ITT World Champion Filippo Ganna (Team Ineos Grenadiers) won Stage 1 of the 103rd Giro d’Italia, the 15.1km Monreale-Palermo Tissot ITT marking the start of the Corsa Rosa and wearing the first Maglia Rosa of the race.
João Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick – Step) and Mikkel Bjerg (UAE Team Emirates) finished second and third, respectively.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Maglia Rosa Filippo Ganna said: “Today I knew was one of the hot favorites but I tried to stay calm.
