The solo arrival at the Passo Brocon finish line gives Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost) the stage victory in the FantaGiro d’Italia.
The 22-year-old German rider literally dominated the day’s rankings, scoring a total of 153 points: 50 for the stage win, 10 for the intermediate sprints, 12 for the Intergiro, 4 for the “Cima Coppi” GPM, 23 for the 1st category GPM, 15 for the 2nd category GPM, and 6 for the 3rd category GPM. Steinhauser also earned 10 points for the Breakaway Award, another 10 for the Fugitive Bonus (winning the stage with at least 20km solo), 20 for the “First Time is Unforgettable” Bonus awarded to a rider who wins a stage at the Giro d’Italia for the first time in their career, and 3 for the Equipment Bonus. The total haul for the EF Education-EasyPost rider would have been even more substantial if he hadn’t received a 10-point penalty for the Bicycle Change Malus.
Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) with 90 points and Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) with 49 round up the podium for Stage 17.
