Quotes

Massimo Doris, CEO of Banca Mediolanum, said: “It is with great pleasure that we renew today our sponsorship of the Gran Premio della Montagna for another three years. Those who deserve to wear this jersey show a unique strength of spirit and courage. I like to remember that courage means putting your heart into challenging the uncertain and putting your fears aside. Fortitude then allows one to face the most difficult situations. These are the values that link Banca Mediolanum to the world of cycling and the Giro d’Italia. These are the characteristics that the champions who compete for our Maglia Azzurra must have. The Giro d’Italia is the most important popular event in Italy with millions of fans who animate the streets of our country, it is inclusive because it brings together people who share the same passion for cycling.  I am really happy that this story, started in 2003, is still going on’.

Urbano Cairo, President of RCS MediaGroup: ‘Banca Mediolanum is part of the Giro d’Italia family and is much more than a historical partner. The Doris family, from father Ennio to son Massimo, has identified in the Corsa Rosa a very effective vehicle to communicate and meet its customers. And this choice has worked because it has become the longest-lasting company in the history of the Giro with its 21 years of sponsorship and will still be at our side for a future to be written on the roads of the Giro”.

The Maglia Azzurra

The Gran Premio della Montagna classification was established at the Giro d’Italia in 1933. Initially, the leader of this classification did not wear a distinctive jersey, until 1974, when the green jersey was introduced, replaced by the Maglia Azzurra from 2012 (sponsored by Mediolanum).

There are 48 categorised GPM climbs in the next Giro (13 1st category, 18 2nd category and 17 3rd/4th category). Colle del Gran San Bernardo, 34 km long, will be the Cima Coppi of this edition.

Iconic and historic climbs: Gran Sasso, Bondone, Valcava, Passo Giau and Tre Cime di Lavaredo

First time on the menu: Santuario di Monte Lussari (time trial stage) withpeaks topping out at 22%..

Banca Mediolanum Pedal Race

The appointment with a special event is also renewed: the 2nd edition of the pedal race in memory of Ennio Doris, which will be held on Sunday 21 May, starting from the Banca Mediolanum headquarters in Basiglio and with a first intermediate point in Cassano d’Adda before crossing the finish line of the Bergamo stage.
