Van Uden: “Sometimes I should believe in myself as much as my teammates do”
Stage winner Casper Van Uden spoke with humility and emotion right after the finish: “I didn’t win this alone—it was a victory for the whole team: the riders here, the staff, and everyone working behind the scenes. We’ve put in a lot of work on our lead-out train since the start of the season, and also in Turkey last week. This was the first sprint of my first Grand Tour—and I won it. But I don’t think it’s a surprise. Sometimes I just need to believe in myself as much as my teammates believe in me. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now, I’m just happy with this win.”

The Charm of Lecce
Lecce, the capital of the Salento region, is one of Puglia’s true gems, renowned for its stunning artistic and architectural heritage, especially its distinctive Baroque style.
Originally founded during the Messapian era and later Romanized, Lecce still showcases remnants of its ancient past, like the Roman amphitheater in Piazza Sant’Oronzo. But it’s the Lecce Baroque, developed between the 17th and 18th centuries, that gives the city its unique character: churches, palaces, and intricate façades carved from soft pietra leccese lend the streets a luminous, theatrical beauty. Must-see landmarks include the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Cathedral (Duomo), and the Castle of Charles V.
Lecce is also a thriving university and cultural hub, alive with events, artisan workshops, and a rich culinary tradition. Its narrow lanes, elegant piazzas, and the warm hospitality of its people make it an unmissable destination for anyone exploring Puglia.

The Pietramadre Project
Pietramadre is the name of Alberobello’s bid to become the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027, a joint initiative with the neighboring towns of Castellana Grotte, Noci, and Polignano a Mare. The name – literally “Mother Stone” – pays tribute to the region’s iconic stone, a symbol of both strength and collective memory. The project aims to enhance the area’s cultural and natural heritage, promoting a shared vision of sustainable and inclusive development. Among the proposals are a new multifunctional auditorium and artistic urban seating installations designed to turn public spaces into vibrant hubs of community and culture. The Pietramadre project has already made it to the shortlist of ten finalists for the 2027 title – an exciting step forward for Alberobello and its cultural future.

Alberobello and its Trulli
Alberobello is world-famous for its trulli – traditional dry-stone dwellings with distinctive conical roofs. These unique structures were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The town dates back to the 16th century, originally established as a rural settlement under the rule of the Counts of Conversano. To dodge taxes imposed by the Kingdom of Naples, the locals were required to build homes that could be dismantled quickly—hence the trulli. The Rione Monti and Aia Piccola districts are the historic heart of Alberobello, home to hundreds of these iconic buildings. Today, many serve as residences, artisan shops, and tourist accommodations. Alberobello attracts visitors from around the globe, drawn by its fairytale charm and one-of-a-kind architecture. Highlights include the Church of Sant’Antonio – shaped like a trullo itself – and the two-story Trullo Sovrano, a city landmark and true symbol of Alberobello.
