BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
This route is basically the Giro 2022 circuit modified with the passage by the Basilica of Superga (a cul-de-sac) and the ascent of Colle Maddalena from Revigliasco.
Technical info
The route starts from the Gran Madre di Dio, but any point on Corso Moncalieri and neighbouring areas can be used for this purpose. You quickly reach the bottom of the Superga ascent, which you climb all the way up to Piazzale della Basilica. There, you can stop for a break. Then, you reach Pino Torinese along an undulating sector and then further down to Pecetto Torinese.
Past Pecetto, the route rises to Colle Maddalena and rolls on a network of small roads winding their way up the hillside (allowing for countless variations on the route described here). A challenging descent leads you first to Bivio Raby and then to Valsalice. Skirting the Parco del Nobile, the route takes in a testing stretch before entering the town for good with the final descent.
Recommended for those who are used to moving in traffic and have good training for steep climbs.
NOTES:
Most roads are winding and quite narrow. Mind the descents, especially at busy times (school exits, rush hours, etc.), when the many motor vehicles and parked vehicles could take up the roadway.
ROUTE CHANGE DURING THE RACE:
Those who are well-trained can take via Allason in Pecetto Torinese and follow the route of the 2022 Giro, climbing the toughest slope of Colle Maddalena with a narrow road and gradients of up to 20%.
