BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
Basically, it is the circuit of the Giro 2022 stage as well as a classic route of Tirreno-Adriatico in the 1980s.
Technical info
This fairly short circuit includes a series of corners and a succession of unrelenting ascents and descents, with double-digit gradients at points.
The start is set in Bacoli (where you have more chances to find a parking place). The entire route rolls on well-paved yet not particularly wide roads.
The course runs around Lake Miseno, then climbs up Mount Procida and reaches the summit (128 m above sea level) at km 4. Stunning views over the Gulf of Naples and its islands along the entire ascent and in the first half of the descent.
Then you enter Monte di Procida, where the narrow meandering road is lined with houses. The descent leads to Torregaveta and Fusaro and, past Baia, you climb the undulating road through Castello Aragonese and reach Bacoli, back to the start point.
NOTES:
You find eateries along the whole loop: coffee shops and restaurants, suitable for moments of rest. Enjoy the stunning views from the top of the climb.
The roads of the entire peninsula are fairly trafficked all year round, hence, the cyclists need to be always very careful.
ROUTE CHANGES DURING YOUR RIDE:
If you want to extend your ride, near Baia you can negotiate the via Petronio short sharp climb (14%) and then ride along via Orazio, Strada Provinciale Scalandrone, reach Arco Felice (the Ancient Arc is charming) and come back in the circuit, through via Cuma, toward Fusaro. It is 25km loop with 500 m of elevation gain. Once again, the traffic in relation to the width of the roads needs to be taken into account.
