Technical info
A route in the footsteps of the Giro with a touch of Renaissance in Urbino. We start from the sports centre of Fossombrone and almost immediately tackle the climb of Monte delle Cesane, which is particularly challenging due to its gradients of up to 16% in the first part.
This is a staggered climb that alternates very steep stretches with much easier ones, breaking the rhythm and imposing continuous shift work.
We then face a challenging descent towards Urbino, where a stop can be made. The return journey begins on the same road and then veers towards Isola del Piano and reaches the old Flaminia road that leads back to Fossombrone.
With the exception of the Urbino area, traffic is very light unless we are in the peak tourist season.
NOTES:
The Cesane road is in a good state of repair, especially in the section covered by the Giro d’Italia 2023 but may have less smooth sections in the remainder of the route.
POSSIBLE DETOURS/ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
To shorten the route, it is possible, at the end of the first descent or at the summit of the Cesane, to deviate towards Isola del Piano with a cut-off of 15 to 20 km. Alternatively, you can descend from the summit of the climb to Calmazzo and from there return to Fossombrone.
