BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
This route winds into Genoa’s inland along the Fontanabuona valley.
Technical info
The start is set in Ferriere, a small village at the bottom of an iconic climb in cycling: Scoffera (11.5km / 3.9% average gradient). This climb was included in many races that made the history of cycling, although it has been overlooked recently. The entire route runs through valleys and woods, alternating between outlooks and cool, shady sections. With today’s standard, this is a climb suitable for many cyclists.
Past Scoffera, the fast-rolling descent through Davagna (on a slight incline) leads to Cavassolo.
Then, the route runs along the Bisagno stream all the way up to Bargagli and then to Sant’Alberto (3.9km / 6.5% average gradient). Past the village on the crest, a short descent leads back to the start point.
NOTES:
The roads are typical of the Ligurian mountains, i.e., narrow roads, with little space around the carriageway, extremely winding with a continuous in-and-out pattern to stick to the side of the mountain, sometimes reversing direction with a hairpin turn. Mind the passages through the villages, which are always rather narrow, but the stunning views make up for the difficulties of the route.
ROUTE CHANGES DURING YOUR RIDE:
If you want to shorten the route and make it easier, past the Colle Boasi tunnel, you can turn left and reach Bargagli directly, passing from km 9.5 to km 35.4. It is not possible (and would be extremely dangerous) to use the Taviani tunnel, which is forbidden to pedestrians and bicycles.
