BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
The route rolls around Filottrano and joins the short sharp climbs. It is suitable for very well-trained cyclists ready to negotiate very steep slopes several times.
Technical info
The first is the Muro di Filottrano (Filottrano ramp) with 18-20 % gradients which has already been included in Tirreno-Adriatico.
From Filottrano the route heads to Jesi, takes in the Santa Maria Nuova cimb (1.3km / 7.2% average gradient) Past a short section along the crest (panoramic view from both sides), the descent leads into the Musone valley and the Muro di Filottrano (1.6km / 7.9% average gradient), where the final stretch has a gradient over 18% along via del Lavoro.
After passing through Filottrano, the route climbs up to Osimo along the Western side (3.7km / 4.9% average gradient) with peaks over 12%. A succession of short climbs – Castelfidardo and Loreto – follows. They have been included in recent stages of Tirreno-Adriatico.
The route between Loreto and Recanati is very interesting from a cycling vantage point: it is a 4km undulating stretch with considerable gradients and a final section at over 10%.
Past Recanati, the route rises to Montefano and leads to the start point after a further 5.5km incline with some counter-sloping stretches, yet still with two-digit gradients at points.
NOTES:
The roads are generally averagely busy except for the muri where there are fewer vehicles. It might be difficult to find a parking place since the town is built on the top of the hill and has just a few appropriate parking spaces.
ROUTE CHANGES DURING YOUR RIDE:
If you are in difficulty, you can halve the route by stopping at the first passage through Filottrano, whether you follow the order that is indicated here, or whether you decide to swap the two loops that are approx. 30 and 60 km respectively, choosing the one best suited to your preparation
If you want, between Castelfidardo and Acquaviva it is possible to cross the Selva di Castelfidardo where a battle was fought between the Piedmontese and Papal armies in 1860.
At Recanati you can take the beltway and stop at Colle dell’Infinito.
