BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
The route rolls around Filottrano and joins the short sharp climbs of the surroundings. It is suitable for fairly well-trained cyclists ready to negotiate very steep slopes.
Technical info
The first is the Filottrano ramp (Muro di Filottrano) with 18-20 % gradients which has already been included in Tirreno-Adriatico.
From Filottrano the route runs toward Jesi and takes in the Santa Maria Nuova ascent (1.3 km / 7.2% average gradient). Past a short section along the crest (panoramic view from both sides), the descent leads into the Musone valley and the Muro di Filottrano (1.6 km / 7.9% average gradient), where the final stretch has a gradient over 18% along via del Lavoro.
Then the route enters a second loop toward Osimo, passes Passatempo and through Fiumicello and there negotiates the Montefano climb. To get back to start point there is still a 5.5km incline with several counter-sloping stretches, yet with two-digit gradients at points.
NOTES:
The roads are generally averagely busy except for the muri where there are fewer vehicles. It might be difficult to find a parking place, since the town is built on the top of the hill and has just a few appropriate parking spaces.
ROUTE CHANGE DURING YOUR RIDE:
If you are in difficulty, you can halve the route by stopping at the first passage through Filottrano, whether you follow the order that is indicated here, or whether you decide to swap the two loops, both of which are approximately 30 km long.
