Technical info
A very demanding and challenging route: departure from Cibiana di Cadore for a round trip itinerary with very short side digressions. This route will allow you to sweat it out in the very heart of the Dolomites, between Pelmo and Civetta, climbing Forcella Cibiana (on both sides), Coi and Forcella Staulanza.
As soon as we leave Cibiana (and its murals), we are faced with the first 5 km of a very steep climb into the forest. At the top, take a look at the monument to aviator Lt. Giovanni Camana.
A quick descent towards Val di Zoldo where, after a short false-flat section to Dont, the second climb begins. After leaving the main road, we climb up to Coi on a slightly narrower road, which is very steep to almost 20%. After a short descent to Mareson-Pecol, it’s time to tackle the Palafavera climb (site of a Giro finish) and continue to Forcella Staulanza with hairpin bends and rideable gradients.
After the turnaround we descend again to Forno di Zoldo to climb the western slope of Forcella Cibiana, which is easier than the previous one and whose descent leads directly back to the starting point.
NOTES:
These are roads with little traffic except in the height of the tourist season. It should be noted that the Forno di Zoldo – Longarone section is forbidden to bicycles and therefore it is not possible to go in that direction to complete a longer lap.
Along the route, water and refreshments can be found in every village or shelter.
POSSIBLE DETOURS/ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
In case of difficulty, one can just turn back at any point, bearing in mind that everything one has travelled downhill will be uphill on the way back, and vice versa.
