BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
After a short section on the Adige Valley cycle path, we tackle the climb from the legendary side where Charly Gaul conquered his Giro.
Technical info
After a short section on the Adige Valley cycle path, we tackle the climb from the legendary side where Charly Gaul conquered his Giro.
Until Vaneze the climb consistently has gradients of around 9%. In the last part (when the cyclist is tired) the gradient settles at just over 7%. Many hairpin bends and the villages of Sardagna, Candriai, Vaneze and Norge are passed before arriving at Vason.
Gentle descent down to Viote, where the narrowest and steepest part begins, directly overlooking the Adige valley through Garniga Vecchia and Garniga Terme. At Covelo the climb begins again, towards the Bordala pass. At the Castellano junction the out-and-back section begins (6 km average 5.9%). Descent over Castellano and Villa Lagarina to cross the river Adige and return to the cycle path back to the starting point.
NOTES:
The first and last parts of the route run on the Adige Valley Cycle Path, a track of almost 82 km without interruption in the province of Trento.
POSSIBLE DETOURS/ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
The route can be shortened by descending directly to Aldeno after Garniga Terme and returning along the Adige cycle path.
