Biciscuola, currently in its 19th edition
Biciscuola, currently in its 19th edition, is the educational project by the Giro d’Italia involving 50,000 children from 2,000 primary school classes in the areas where the race is passing.
The purpose of this initiative is to introduce the younger generation to the world and values of the Giro d’Italia, to the culture of cycling, and to the spirit of fair play, while addressing the issues of sustainable mobility, nutritional and road safety education.
All the classes that will register within 9 February 2020 will receive a complimentary Biciscuola kit, containing one educational handbook per pupil, 2 posters for the class, teaching aids and recreational material.
Classes may participate by submitting their entries on one of the topics proposed. Prizes will be awarded to the best projects at each stage of the 103rd Giro d’Italia, from 12 to 31 May 2020. On that occasion, pupils may also engage in the activities promoted by the Polizia Stradale on board of their bus (Pullman Azzurro), and play at the Biciscuola stand at the finish Village.
A- ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION/SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY (WOLFIE GREEN CREW)
Wolfie got a promotion! After years of distinguished service as Giro d’Italia mascot, he has now become the ambassador of the RIDE GREEN project, which promotes waste sorting during the Giro d’Italia stages.
Wolfie is very proud of his new role, and he wants to be a recycling ace! So he gets on his bike, and sets off to discover how waste sorting is implemented in all the cities along the route of the 2020 Giro d’Italia.
Help Wolfie achieve his goal by joining the Wolfie Green Crew! Tell him how waste sorting is performed in your town and in your household, and share a few suggestions on how it could be improved. But don’t forget that Wolfie is also – and above all – a cyclist. We’re sure that he will greatly appreciate if you put into practice what you’ve learned about recycling, by designing a bicycle accessory made from… recycled materials!
B- ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION (“A TESTA ALTA” – HEAD UP)
Whenever we move along the road, we must remain focused on what is going on around us. All too often, however, you see people who are distracted and don’t pay the necessary attention to what is around them, whether they are driving a car, riding a motorbike or a bicycle, or even on foot.
Moving along the road thus becomes very dangerous, and carelessness causes countless accidents every year.
Identify the basic rules that, in your opinion, everyone should follow to pay the necessary attention whenever they walk or drive, so as to pose no danger to themselves or to others.
Let your fantasy roam free, and come up with an original way to make sure that everyone can get to know them, and observe them… keeping their head up everywhere they go!
The 2020 Giro d’Italia will be touching 12 different regions, and 12 is also the number of months in a year. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but… why not take the opportunity to create a “food calendar”? Month by month, you can describe a regional recipe (one for each of the regions touched by the Giro), prepared using only fruit and vegetables in their respective seasons. We cannot wait to receive your calendars – just the thought of it is downright mouth-watering!
All the teaching staff taking part in the project may contact the Biciscuola Secretariat to receive all the information they need for their classes to participate. The Secretariat is open Mondays through Fridays, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 2:30 to 5:30 pm.
